Day 1: Londorossi Gate to Forest Camp

Elevation: 7,800ft to 9,500ft
Distance: 6 km
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Habitat: Rain Forest

  • Morning: Depart Moshi and drive to Londorossi Gate (approx. 4 hours), where you’ll complete the necessary park entry formalities.
  • Trekking: Afterward, head to the Lemosho trailhead and begin the hike through the dense rainforest. The trail winds through lush vegetation, with opportunities to spot wildlife and enjoy the natural beauty.
  • Camp: Arrive at Forest Camp, where you’ll set up camp and prepare for the journey ahead.
  • Overnight: Forest Camp

Distance: 8 km
Hiking Time: 5-6 hours
Habitat: Moorland

  • Trekking: Leave the rainforest behind and ascend into the moorland, where you’ll find tall grasses, heather, and volcanic rocks. The trail passes several streams before reaching the Shira Ridge.
  • Camp: Continue to Shira Camp 1, located on the Shira Plateau, with stunning views of Kibo Peak.
  • Overnight: Shira Camp 1

  • Exploration: Take the day to explore the Shira Plateau and continue east toward Kibo’s glaciered peak.
  • Shira Camp 2: After a gentle hike across the plateau, stop at Shira Camp 2, nestled in a meadow beside a stream.
  • Moir Hut: Continue your journey toward Moir Hut at 13,800ft, an excellent acclimatization stop.
  • Overnight: Moir Hut

Hiking Time: 4-6 hours
Habitat: Semi-Desert

  • Trekking: Ascend toward Lava Tower (14,900ft), a rocky outcrop known as Shark’s Tooth.
  • Descent: After reaching the tower, descend to Barranco Camp at 13,000ft. This day is important for acclimatization as you will gain and lose elevation to help your body adjust.
  • Overnight: Barranco Camp

Elevation: 13,000ft to 15,000ft
Distance: 9 km
Hiking Time: 8-10 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert

  • Morning: After breakfast, tackle the Barranco Wall, a steep ridge that leads to the Karanga Valley campsite.
  • Afternoon: Continue to Barafu Camp at 15,000ft, where you’ll rest and prepare for the summit.
  • Overnight: Barafu Camp

Elevation: 15,300ft to 19,345ft (Summit) then down to 10,000ft
Distance: 5 km ascent / 12 km descent
Hiking Time: 7-8 hours ascent / 4-6 hours descent
Habitat: Arctic

  • Summit Push: Begin your climb to Uhuru Peak early in the morning (midnight to 2 am). The ascent will take you through the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers to Stella Point (18,600ft).
  • Sunrise: From Stella Point, enjoy an unforgettable sunrise and continue to the summit, Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.
  • Descent: After reaching the summit, descend to Mweka Hut at 10,000ft for a well-deserved rest.
  • Overnight: Mweka Hut

Elevation: 10,000ft to 5,400ft
Distance: 10 km
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Habitat: Rain Forest

  • Trekking: After breakfast, descend through the rainforest to the Mweka Park Gate.
  • Summit Certificate: Receive your summit certificate for reaching Uhuru Peak.
  • Transfer: After completing the trek, enjoy a scenic drive back to Moshi, where your Kilimanjaro adventure ends.
